  This law firms policy is as follows: Secure money first and then worry about the client after. My mother and I received a referral for this firm from the law society of Ontario. Our initial consultation regarding an employment with Gary was ok although he spoke very slowly to drag the time past 30 mins to begin charging for consultation fees. After explaining the situation, I requested we do a contingency plan following financial constraints after being terminated from the job. We initially agreed on 30% + HST + dispersement on all additional winnings which we were in agreement with. Gary agreed and said he will draft a retainer agreement which he said I need to "ensure you read it very carefully." Clearly he said that for a reason as the retainer agreement was nothing of what we agreed on. For example a line from the agreement states: "I further agree to deposit with you the sum of $1,000.00 + HST ($1,130.00) as an initial retainer and to deposit from time to time interim retainer monies as you may require to pay anticipated disbursements in connection herewith." which is not at all what we agreed on and very vaguely describes what might be anticipated. After contacting the firm to discuss this retainer, according to Gary's law clerk, Dias Tleumaganbetov, "Mr. Bennett will not be able to call you today because his evening meetings are still ongoing...GAB Law Firm will not be able to meet your Wednesday deadline to respond to the company. You may wish to consider asking for an extension of time to respond" As if it was that easy, I would have already done that. I ultimately decided to go with another firm as I did not have the energy to argue with my company along with the firm that is supposed to support me during this case. Make sure you read his retainer agreements carefully as he works to support himself, not his clients. Gary lied about our agreement and tried to line his own pockets although he told us what we want to hear on zoom. EDIT TO OWNERS RESPONSE: wow more lies, but honestly what did I expect? I never refused to pay, I asked for an explanation as to how that number came to be (which Dias has not gotten back to me about, tell him to) Additionally, all those comments are true but were made on the presumption that it is a contingency plan, not whatever lies were written in the agreement you sent about deposits and further deposits that may be needed Gary gave us false hope by telling us what we want to hear just to secure his money

  My son and I received their referral from the Ontario law society while looking for an employment lawyer for a severance package after dismissal. We had a meeting with Gary where we quickly learned his intentions are all about money rather than helping us solve the case. We discussed that ideally we would prefer a contingency plan due to financial constraints (rightly so as this was about an employment dismissal). Gary initially agreed and said he will draft a retainer agreement. What he did not mention on the call is that the retainer agreement will not be what we discussed. Furthermore, the agreement is written in a vague and conspicuous way in order to deceive the client, which in my opinion, is very unethical and wrong. We tried to discuss this agreement with him but unfortunately he was “too busy in meetings” and I should ask for an extension with my company if I want to meet with him. While at first I thought I was getting a law firm that will stand by my side quickly turned into a situation where I was being deceived by both the law firm and the company that let me go. If you want a firm that will lie to you to line their own pockets, please blindly sign their retainer agreement, otherwise, do yourself a favour and find someone else who will work for you, not against you. Gary and his team (law clerk - Dias) made my situation way more stressful than it needs to be, I thought I was working with a team that will support me, however, I was actually against my potential lawyer along with my previous employer.

  It's nice to see a GAB response but it requires one very significant clarification. There is total agreement that divulging any attorney/client information is completely inappropriate but no one ever made such a request. The only dialogue and/or correspondence about Mr. Bennett's present client was solely a reference to his obvious skill set representing said client and our awareness of it which became the primary reason he was deemed the ideal person to take on my friend's case. With this key distinction now on record, perhaps GAB will reconvene and realize there is good reason to engage as this is a clear gaff on their part ?

  Met with Gary for the first time yesterday and was not sure what to expect. The meeting was amazing. Gary made me feel comfortable and took the time to explain every detail of my agreement offer. He gave me his personal and professional opinion. I would recommend GAB Law Firm to everyone. Do not hesitate. All the wonderful reviews you read are true.
